

about jack lincoln
Jack Lincoln is a Sydney based trombonist and composer with interests primarily in jazz and improvised art music. Formally from South Coast NSW, Jack received his initial training at the Wollongong Conservatorium of Music before moving to Sydney to complete undergraduate study at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music (Bachelor of Music- Jazz Performance Honours). During this time Jack studied with the likes of James Greening, Phil Slater, Mike Rivett, Simon Barker, Florian and many others. In a final honours year he completed a thesis on the affordances of the trombone (Efficiency and Economy: A Study of James Macaulay’s Improvisations through Idiomatic Analysis on the Trombone) and is actively seeking to create new improvised material for the instrument.
Jack has a wide range of musical experiences including large and small jazz and improvised groups, orchestras, brass bands (including quintets etc) stage bands, touring groups, rock bands (including solo project Ducks.) and latin ensembles to name a few.
Jack has had opportunities to perform and workshop with top musicians including Barney McCall, James and John Morrison, Mat Jodrell, Sandy Evans, Fred Wesley, Andy Martin, Wayne Wallace (USA) and many more as well as having opportunities with the Australian Art Orchestra (CMI participant 2017) Sydney Conservatorium of Music Jazz Orchestra, South Coast Big Band and groups with peers such as Salt Sketches.
